Warning Description: Areal Flood Watch
Warning Date: 8:32 PM EST on March 10, 2010
WarningSum:...Flood Watch Remains In Effect From Thursday Evening Through
Sunday Evening...
Warning Message:The Flood Watch continues for
* portions of western Maryland and northern West Virginia...
including the following areas...in western Maryland...Garrett.
In northern West Virginia...Preston and Tucker.
* From Thursday evening through Sunday evening
* the National Weather Service advises that warm temperatures will
continue to melt the substantial snow pack over the mountains.
The melting snow will result in enough runoff to cause small
streams to swell tonight and Thursday. Periods of rain starting
Thursday night and persisting into Sunday will add to the
snow melt and increase the risk of flooding for streams.
Widespread rainfall Friday into Saturday will further increase
the chance of flooding along the youghiogheny and cheat rivers
and their tributaries.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts of snow melt and rainfall through the weekend.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
